With today’s release, the backend now provides several features on the website. The release also
cleans up features that aren’t under active development.
Improvements to the dataset list
The update removes the second search box on the side.
Search terms are now persisted in the URL history.
Searching works.
Dataset column titles and descriptions are now part of the search index.
The ‘Upload Data’ button now redirects you to login if you’re not yet logged in.
Deprecated features
Removed Storm Cluster management for now.
Removed the Topology Editor for now.
Miscellaneous Improvements
Dataset detail view now links properly in the top left menu icon.
It’s probably telling that this project feels worth documenting. While it’s a little too early to
highlight some of the interesting things that the data can show, this blog can document the journey
so far.
The official version of the product right now is 0.1.67, which speaks to a rather long version
history. However, most of that code history is discovery and exploration of the problem space. As
you can see by visiting Dataplay.io, there are still remnants of old ideas in
the UI. The Storm Topology editor, for instance, is a near and dear pet project, however without the
data to back it it’s little more than a neat tool. That doesn’t mean iteration stops, but over the
next few versions the roadmap is likely to mothball and deactivate those features.
