With today’s release, several features which had already been implemented on the backend are now finally available in the website, and we’ve taken a little time to clean up some features which we’re not actively developing at the moment.

Improvements to the Dataset List

  • The second search box on the side has been removed.
  • Search terms are now persisted in the URL history.
  • Searching works!
  • Dataset column titles and descriptions are now part of our search index.
  • The ‘Upload Data’ button now redirects you to login if you’re not yet logged in.

Deprecated Features

  • Removed Storm Cluster management (for now).
  • Removed the Topology Editor (for now).

Miscellaneous Improvements

  • Dataset detail view now links properly in the top left menu icon.

Hey look, we have a blog!

It’s probably telling that I feel committed enough to this project to start documenting it. While it’s probably a little too early to highlight some of the interesting things that our data can show you, I can nevertheless document the journey so far.

The official version of our product right now is 0.1.67 – which speaks to a rather long version history – however most of that code history is discovery and exploration of the problem space. As you can see by visiting dataplay.io, there are still remnants of old ideas in the UI. The Storm Topology editor, for instance, is a near and dear pet project of mine, however without the data to back it it’s little more than a neat tool. That’s not to say we won’t continue iterating on it, but over the next few versions you can expect those features to be mothballed and deactivated.
